near washington boulevard, north glieb road arlington. good morning stacy. >> good morning sarah. it is having an impact on morning rush hours this intersection is shut down it is a very busy thorough way. if you look behind me though they are making progress clearing this accident scene. what happened 2:15 a.m. an officer responding to a call for a fight at falston mall heading southbound, north glieb road the officers suv collided with that vehicle ther by a female the officer was seriously injured taken to hospital the female was also injured and said to have minor injuries, now i spoke to arlington county police earlier this morning here is what they had to say about the prospect for reopening. >> we are trying to reconstruct the accident find out what happened numerous pieces of evidence we have to collect, photograph the scene and map it

victim has been identified as 75-year-old gary hansom officers searched the neighbourhood and warned neighbors to stay indoors folks are still on edge. >> the officer came with his gun and said hurry up get in the house and lock the door i was so scared i was frightened. >> they kept asking everybody, they said please go into the house just lock your doors go in the house. we didn't know what was happening. >> an all points bulletin due to a medical issue has been issued for richard hanson the victim's son, he has not been named a suspect. police are looking for this man they say he attacked a man with a hammer in culpepper virginia. he was looking for a job when the victim turned him down hernandez hit him with a hammer the victim was hospitalized but expected to be okay. >> five people including three children recovering after a

large three branch fell on them at a local park during a bible camp field trip the tree appears healthy at the time there was not a lot of wind today inspectors will be at the park to determine what happened. the search is on for a man who broke into an apartment and sexually assaulted the woman inside it happened early saturday morning lewis chapel circle the victim was awakened by a man standing in her bedroom the suspect sexually assaulted the woman and left police say there were children in the apartment but they were not hurt. talks to raise the nations debt ceiling could move to the white house. new tax hikes back on the table too. doug luzader has the latest from capitol hill. >> reporter: republicans would have to back away from their pledge of no new taxes the white house is optimistic this latest plan could work. president obama didn't exactly

his exaid, a former editor at news of the world tabloid is among several people arrested in the scandal. yesterday rupert murdoch initially seemed confused and flussers, two hours later into the proceeding a protestor interrupted the hearing. now a man tried to throw a shaving cream pie into rupert murdoch's face his wife wendy in the pink jacket jumped up to defend her husband police arrested the man murdoch continued his testimony about 10 minutes later saying while he is the ceo of a company that hacked phones he is not responsible for what happened. >> do you accept ultimately you are responsible for this whole fiasco. >> no. >> you are not responsible? >> the people that i trusted to run it and then maybe the

people they trusted. i worked with mr. hinton for 52 years and would trust him with my life. >> he was referring to the head of news international, where much of the phone hacking is believed to have taken place he resigned last week as ceo of dow jones where he ran the wall street journal murdoch told a committee he has no plans to resign he and his son james apologized for the scandal telling british lawmakers the company acted as swiftly and transparently as it could once it found out what happened. former news of the world editor rebecca brooks told the committee she never knowingly sanctioned pay offs to the police for information and we are getting word actor hugh grant won a legal battle in his hacking case a judge awarded him the right to see police evidence which could reveal whether his voice mails were hacked by news of the world.

the state of new jersey the latest to consider legalizing marijuana. the governor is allowing a marijuana law to go forward. he knows distributing medical marijuana is against federal law but wants to provide compassionate treatment to people. starting sunday same sex couples in new york will legally be allowed to tie the knot so many people want to get married the city had to institute lottery for license. legally they wanted a clerk to process the license. the mayor says the clerk's office can only handle so many applications 764 to be exact.

it to pass in the house that says more than what democrats could do. >> of course they have control in the house but you know harry potter couldn't make this one work it is really sort of dead now. now the real concern is the gang of six. >> right they came out with this proposal this is something a lot of people are kind of looking at because it sounds like there may be some give on the part of republicans and the president seems to kind of like this a bit talk about the gang of 6 proposal and maybe what success rate it may have. >> gang of 6 proposal has $4 trillion in deficit decrease over the next 10 years when the president came into officer we had a $10 trillion deficit he added 4 trillion on top of that it only takes 4 trillion away over the next 10 years quite frankly i don't think that is quite enough and puts rather lightly a revenue increase code for tax increase and that leads me to believe in the house we will have a few problems.

>> i think this is one of those case it is president has gotten more -- gone more than half way with the republicans that now we are seeing sort of the responsible body at this point, the senate republicans taking hold of this, senator johannes from nebraska has come onboard too. if we can put together an agreement which knocks out $4 trillion counting off this and brings us to responsibility without hurting growth without hurting creation of jobs let's move on it and you know, i think it is a tough one ashley is right in the tense the republicans in the house are a lot more extreme than the senate, and a lot of them came to washington and said i don't care if it is the tax i don't care if it is getting rid of the tax you are supposed to get rid of any way they were just

dead set against it, despite ronald regan, despite george bush, regan as governor in california raising $6 billion they just are locked into that ideological straight jacket i think there will be enough of them and hopefully, there will be some democrats who will propose this plan too they don't like social security and medicare. >> do you think tea partiers can get behind this. >> he said the president has come more than half way, the president has known for over a year we will need to raise the debt ceiling has done nothing but proposed more spending, i think any time you hear a soft revenue increase that immediately cause employers to step back and maybe not hire >> ashley don't you think what we need is to stabilize this economy, get everybody in an optimistic moment we are solving the problem we are not just talking about it we are

actuallysolving it this president to take on your own party is a tough lick, this business of no rev has never been -- revenue has never been a president that has at some stage dealt with the revenue side of things the american public think by 20 points the republicans are intransient and the president is more willing to reach a big agreement that is what i think you are seeing in the senate now hopefully it will move forward. >> now do you think that -- obviously we are still talking about as well what is on the table senator mitch mcconnell's plan talking about giving the president authority, just you know let's fry to avoid a default -- try to avoid a default, raise the debt ceiling figure it out from there does that have the motion behind it? something that it will be able to rally behind since the deadline is under two weeks away. >> we are looking at a two tier problem. we know the bonds -- we are not

be able to pair bonds if we don't increase the debt limit however we could have interest rates higher if we don't go ahead and do so. mitch mcconnell needs a fail safe program to make sure we can do and pay what we need to do with the bonds but there may be an opportunity to get behind the gang of six program. >> it is a fall back position in a way. there is the 14th amendment and president clinton even said hey, guys you know if you have to, you do it you just do it. you know we have had votes on this since 1916 but nothing requiring the 14th amendment says we shall pay our debt no one wants to get to that point you want an agreement as ashley said, you know for a lot of us, i want something big i mean i know it is going to hurt some folks on our side but i want something big. >> the gang of six proposal they are talking about now, i was seeing some were concerned

botched the south street -- bought the south street art gallery i didn't know about easton before that. long story short i went to carmel that same year and attended the carmel art plein air festival i thought it was great and i came back to easton and thought it would really work here because this is such a charming little town, there is so many things to paint and the whole county is full of fabulous scenes. >> i am working on my master piece this morning i did a little earlier painting. >> oh, good. >> it is progressing well. but i want to pick your brain like as you are looking at your setting and you are coming up with your piece here what are you thinking? >> i am really painting the light and i am -- i have to paint quickly the light changes so quickly when you do a plein air scene. i squint my eyes frequently it
